San Pedro de Macorís Province was created as a province with the constitution of September 9th, 1907 with the same name of its provincial capital. With a surface of 1255, 46 km2, It has limits at the north with Seibo and Hato Mayor provinces, La Romama Province at the East, Santo Domingo and Monte Plata Provinces at the West, and the Caribbean Sea at the South. It has a population of 301,744 people; from them 148,900 are men and 152,844 are women. The main rivers in San Pedro de Macoris are: Soco, Higuamo, Casuí, Brujuelas (it has limits with Santo Domingo) and Cumayasa which has limits with Romana Province. The economy is very diverse; tourism stands out in the west coast of the city, in Guayacari and Juan Dolio.The industry ,the bovine cattle ranch and farming (citric and sugar cane) are the most important lines in the economy. There are many sugar mills in this province. The commercial activity is also very important.
